How to settle your parking fines in NYC securely and on time

The 30-Day Requirement

NYC regulations stipulate that you must respond to a parking violation within 30 days of its issuance. A response means either submitting payment in full or officially requesting a hearing. Failure to act triggers automatic late penalties and puts your vehicle at risk of enforcement actions like booting.

Available Options for Payment

1. Online Transactions

The digital portal is the most efficient way to clear your balance.

  • Requirements: Your 10-digit citation number, or vehicle plates and state.
  • Process: Access the NYC Department of Finance portal to locate your ticket.
  • Fees: Credit/debit card transactions typically carry a ~2% fee. eCheck (ACH) is usually free of charge.

2. Mailing a Payment

For those avoiding digital payments, physical mail is accepted.

  • Format: Send a check or money order (never cash) made out to the "NYC Department of Finance."
  • Details: Clearly write your ticket number and license plate on the memo line.
  • Destination: Use the orange envelope provided or check NYC.gov for the current mailing address.
